Pioneering Places

BRANDING | EXHIBITION DESIGN

‘Pioneering Places: East Kent’ is part of the national Great Place Scheme.

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund, along with Historic England and Artswork, the South East Bridge, this ambitious project involves four projects in Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate, and aims to make East Kent an even better place to live, work and visit by exploring heritage, developing civic pride and connecting artists and communities.

The Brief
As well as the need to feature the four diverse sites, the tender document for the ‘Pioneering Places: East Kent’ branding focussed on promoting the project’s three strands of history, art and community, and we were delighted when the selection panel chose to work with us based on our initial presentation and concepts.

The Solution
Our initial logo concepts featured elements that suggested looking backwards at the sites’ original uses while facing forwards to their new futures, but it was this bold yellow and black option, which we called ‘Turning a Corner’ that captured their imaginations.

The identity was then refined and we developed and delivered a comprehensive set of brand guidelines including typography, colour specifications and showing the brand’s application to printed literature, event materials, signage etc.
