Walmer Town Council

LOGO DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN

Walmer Town Council plays major roles in informing local residents about the town’s history, events and important news, and promoting the community to the wider world.

The Brief
In late 2021, the Council ran a story in the local newspaper, inviting local artists and creative agencies to produce and submit new logo ideas that would reflect the modern-day Walmer better than the existing identity, which featured an historical image of The Duke of Wellington.

The competition entries were reviewed, and three shortlisted ideas were then circulated for a public vote – a vote we were thrilled to win!

The Solution
The new logo features iconic local elements; a stylised Walmer castle with cannon on its ramparts, the waves of the English Channel complete with a launching lifeboat and crew, and a section of the grassy Strand, where Julius Caesar is reputed to have landed in 55BC.

The crest shape hints at tradition and heritage, while the bright colours and bold typography feel much more modern than the previous identity.
